Putting It Together: A Basic Computer Workflow
✓ CompletedThis lesson doesn't teach anything new. Instead, it puts Lessons 1 to 7 together into one complete computer task, the way you'd actually do it.
The instructions in this task are already clear. Understanding unclear client instructions is a separate skill, covered later in the Beginner VA Journey. Here, the only challenge is doing the work on the computer.
The Task
From the client:
"Hi! Here's a ZIP file with 6 photos of our new mugs. Please rename them in our usual style, product-color-angle.jpg (for example mug-blue-front.jpg), and upload them to the Product Photos page on our website. Please also take a screenshot of the renamed files so I can check them. Thanks!"

The Workflow, Step by Step
Here is the same task again, with the lesson where you learned each step:
- Download the ZIPIt lands in Downloads, or check the browser's download list. (Lesson 4)
- Extract itRight-click › Extract All on Windows, or double-click on a Mac. Work from the extracted folder, not inside the ZIP. (Lesson 4)
- Move it into placeMove the folder from Downloads into your work folder for this client, so it's organized and easy to find later. (Lesson 3)
- Rename the photosRight-click › Rename. Follow the client's style exactly, and keep the .jpg at the end. (Lessons 2 and 3)
- ScreenshotCapture just the folder, with nothing private or unrelated in view. (Lesson 2)
- UploadType the website's exact address to open the upload page, then upload the renamed photos. (Lessons 4 and 5)
- CheckWait until the upload finishes, then confirm all 6 photos appear with the right names. (Lesson 4)
Other orders can work too. What matters is that each step is finished properly before the next one depends on it: you can't rename photos that are still inside a ZIP, and you shouldn't take the screenshot until the names are final.
When a Step Goes Wrong
Things rarely go perfectly. Choose the best response.
You double-click the ZIP and can see the photos, but the Rename option doesn't work on them.
The download finished, but the ZIP isn't on your Desktop.
The upload has been stuck at the same point for ten minutes.
Your screenshot of the folder also shows another client's email in a second window.

- Most computer tasks are a chain of simple skills: download, extract, organize, rename, work, save, upload, check.
- Finish each step properly before the next one depends on it.
- When a step goes wrong, use STOP → CHECK → TRY → SEARCH → ASK.
- The best way to make these skills stick is to practice them on your own computer.
