Using a computer for VA work

Almost every VA task happens on a computer. Before you can learn email, Google Workspace, or any specialized VA skill, you need to be comfortable with the computer itself.

This course is for you if you are new to computers, you mostly use a phone, or you use a computer but often get stuck with files, downloads, or problems you don't know how to fix.

It works for both Windows laptops and Macs, and for desktop computers too. Where the steps differ, the lessons show both.

By the end of this course, you should be able to:

This course teaches the computer itself. Email, Google Drive, Docs, Sheets and sharing files with other people are covered in the next course, Internet, Email & Google Workspace.

Do you need this course?

Answer honestly. There is no score, and nobody else sees your answers. They are saved in this browser.

I can turn a computer on, sign in, and restart or shut it down properly.

I can right-click, drag an item, and switch between open windows.

I can take a screenshot and find where it was saved.

I can create a folder, rename a file, and explain the difference between copying and moving a file.

I can find a file I just downloaded and open a ZIP file.

I can open a new tab, go to a web address, and bookmark a page.

When something on my computer stops working, I know what to check and try before asking for help.

I can recognize a suspicious link or attachment and I know how to keep my accounts safe.
